Pastor dies as church collapses in Benue

A pastor at the Dunamis Church in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has died following the collapse of the church building.

It was gathered that the pastor, whose name has yet to be ascertained, and three other persons were observing prayers at the church when the building collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

It was learned that the other three individuals escaped the wreckage.

The cause of the incident however remained unclear.

Confirming the incident, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, said one person died in the building collapse.

Onyeka added: “When debris falls on people like that, the immediate reaction is what happens to the victims.

“So, people who rushed there were able to rescue four people; unfortunately, one person died. The injured persons are responding to treatment in a hospital where they were taken to.”
