Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his readiness to reconcile with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, over the crisis rocking the party ahead of the 2023 general election.
Wike and his allies, Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), otherwise known as G5, have since been calling for the removal of Ayu.
The aggrieved governors have insisted that it is unfair for the main opposition party to have the national chairman and presidential candidate from the northern region, stressing that Ayu should resign his position for justice, equity, and fairness in the PDP.
Speaking after a meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, Wike, who spoke on behalf of other governors, said the door of reconciliation in the party has not been closed.
Wike was accompanied by Ortom, Ikpeazu, and Ugwuanyi.

He said the governors’ visit to Mohammed was in solidarity to fraternise with him over the recent happenings between him and Atiku and to also support him on his quest for the second term in office.
“We’ll ensure that our best friend and colleague is returned back as governor of the state come 2023.
“We share the same pain with you because you’re one of us, and we would not let you down,” Wike stated.
He, however, congratulated Mohammed on his numerous achievements in the area of road construction and human and capital development during his first tenure as the governor of Bauchi State.
Responding, Mohammed, thanked the governors for the visit, saying: “I’m very happy and delighted to have you today. I thanked you most sincerely for coming on behalf of the good people of Bauchi State and myself.
He stated that the PDP under his watch in Bauchi State has provided curative measures to situations, adding that he will continue to work towards fulfilling his campaign promises in addition to supporting all candidates under the platform of the party in the forthcoming general election.
“It’s true I wrote a letter to the leadership of our great party in respect to issues concerning me and some anti-party members,” he said, adding that the letter was written on behalf of the people of Bauchi State and the state chapter of the PDP to seek intervention on the way and manner he was treated in the party.
