PDP explains delay in sanctioning Wike, Ortom over anti-party activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified why it has yet to discipline the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and other members accused of anti-party activities during the 2023 general elections.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, said the party prefers resolving its internal crises through democratic dialogue rather than authoritarian measures.

“The PDP is not a one-man party. Different views exist, and leadership must harmonise them.

“We are addressing issues methodically in line with democratic principles,” Ologunagba stated.

He explained that the party initially focused on reconciliation after the 2023 polls but is now moving towards enforcing discipline.

According to him, party membership comes with constitutional obligations, and those who breach them will face consequences.

“Reprimands have been issued, and compliance is expected.

“It is time for every member to roll up their sleeves and work for the PDP.

“Our focus is the future, not the past,” he added.

Ologunagba also confirmed that preparations for the party’s elective National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, are ongoing in line with due process.

Wike and his allies, popularly known as the G-5 governors, had opposed the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and openly backed rival parties.
