In a major political development, Northern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, as the consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman.
The endorsement was the outcome of extensive consultations during the just-concluded Northern PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, where party leaders unanimously agreed to present Turaki as a united choice ahead of the 2025 elective national convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to insiders, the decision followed a weekend session of Northern PDP leaders in which the chairmanship position was zoned to the North-West geopolitical zone to ensure regional balance and strengthen party unity.
Turaki’s emergence as consensus candidate is seen as a significant step toward consolidating the party’s internal cohesion ahead of the convention.
