The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his strides in governance, peace-building, and infrastructure renewal, describing his leadership as visionary and people-centered.
Senior editors from across the country, led by NGE President Eze Anaba, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
In a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the visit was said to underscore Governor Mutfwang’s rising national profile and the growing recognition of Plateau’s transformation under his administration.
Welcoming the editors, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the media for their support during the legal battles that upheld his mandate. He restated that peace and prosperity remain the foundation of his administration, citing the revival of Operation Rainbow, reactivation of the State Security Council, and the establishment of a modern Security and Information Center.
On infrastructure, he highlighted progress across all 17 local government areas, including the completion of the Utong-Kong flyover and ongoing construction of 380 kilometers of rural roads under the World Bank-assisted RAMP project. He further pledged strategic investments in roads, markets, agriculture, and industry to boost Plateau’s economy.
The Governor also noted key achievements in education—such as a 50 percent tuition cut for indigenes, a 300 percent increase in scholarships, and interventions that rescued tertiary institutions—as well as improvements in healthcare, including upgrades at Plateau Specialist Hospital and expansion of health insurance coverage from 93,000 to 208,000 enrollees.
On agriculture, he said the sector is being revitalized through partnerships with IITA Ibadan, revival of BARC Farms, livestock breed improvement, and plans for a modern abattoir with a daily 500-cattle capacity. He also pointed to renewed investor confidence in tourism, with redevelopment projects at Plateau Hotel, Hill Station Hotel, and Jos Wildlife Park.
Responding, NGE President Anaba praised the Governor’s peace initiatives, the revival of The Standard newspapers, and efforts to restore calm in previously troubled communities.
Governor Mutfwang also addressed issues of employment, security, and land-grabbing, pledging transparent recruitment processes and stronger collaboration with communities to overcome insecurity. He urged the Federal Government to complete the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road, describing infrastructure as vital to Plateau’s economic future.
The visit ended with a tour of key projects and an invitation to the Governor to attend the Guild’s forthcoming national conference in Abuja.
