Police arrest 7 cultists in Lagos

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested no fewer than seven suspected high-ranking cultists in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, made the disclosure during a meeting with the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) at the state’s command headquarters in Lagos on Thursday, January 11.

Fayoade said three suspected cultists were arrested on Tuesday, while four others were arrested on Thursday at different parts of Ikorodu in Lagos.

The police commissioner said cultism, traffic robbery, and kidnapping were some major crimes he would tackle in Lagos State.

Fayoade, who solicited the support of CRAN members, stressed that media practitioners were part of his “eyes and ears” in getting feedback and other information.

He said he was also partnering with the judiciary with a view to ensuring arrested criminals were kept away for a long time.

The police boss said he would be transparent in his operations, stressing that no officer would be covered up for any wrongdoing.

Fayoade further promised to always ensure that his officers carry out their duties professionally, urging the people of the state to give him information on any unprofessional conduct from them (police officers).

He called on all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure they made their stations conducive for all to make a report/complaint when necessary.

On commercial motorcyclists, the police commissioner said there would be stricter enforcement than before, stressing that some of them were part of the security challenges in Lagos State.

Fayoade warned police officers against involvement in land issues, as it was a civil matter, noting, however, that those who want to cause trouble through land matters will be dealt with.

On his part, the CRAN President, Olalekan Olabulor, assured the police boss of the association’s support, as long as information would always be available for members to work with.
