Police arrest man over killing of friend in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, over the alleged shooting and killing of his friend, Hassan Mohamed, in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Monday in Rinjin Gura village, Zalau Ward, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

The police said they received information at the Rishi Divisional Police Headquarters that Yusuf had allegedly shot Mohamed with a dane gun, hitting him in the neck.

Following the report, police operatives from the Gumau Division rushed the victim to Toro General Hospital for treatment.

However, Mohamed was later pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

His remains were subsequently identified, documented and released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The suspect was arrested by the police, who also recovered the alleged weapon used in the shooting as an exhibit.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and directed investigators to thoroughly establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Aliyu also cautioned residents against unlawful possession and careless handling of firearms, warning that anyone found violating the law would face prosecution.

The command further appealed to members of the public to provide credible and timely information to the police to support efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
