The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended some officers involved in a shooting that killed two passersby in the Alagbado area of the state.
It was gathered that the police officers were pursuing suspected criminals in the area when gunshots were accidentally discharged during the operation on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Residents had expressed concern over the incident, prompting swift intervention by the authorities to contain tensions and maintain public safety.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest of the officers via a statement on Friday night.
Adebisi disclosed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Adebisi stated that additional security personnel had been deployed to the area to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

She wrote on X: “The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and intensive investigation into the incident, as well as the adequate deployment of personnel to forestall any breakdown of law and order. Normalcy has been restored to the area.
“The Command assures the good people of Lagos State that justice will be served and the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”
