Police arrest suspected ATM card fraudster in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of being involved in multiple cases of ATM card fraud across the state.

In a statement released on Monday in Uyo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, said the suspect was known for swapping victims’ ATM cards to carry out unauthorized withdrawals.

The arrest followed distress calls from two commercial banks in Uyo, whose CCTV footage captured the suspect in action.

He was apprehended on Saturday at a bank along Abak Road in Uyo.

During the investigation, officers recovered seven ATM cards from different banks in the suspect’s possession.

He reportedly confessed to acting alone and targeting banks primarily in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

“One of his victims has come forward with a formal complaint and successfully identified the suspect,” DSP John stated.

The police confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
