A Nigerian and a Polish national have been detained by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly operating a sophisticated indoor cannabis farm at their residential property in Apapa, Lagos.
The suspects, aged 36 and 49 respectively, were arrested on Monday after police operatives acted on intelligence and uncovered the facility around 8:15am.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
She said a search of the premises revealed a high-tech indoor farming facility equipped for the cultivation, harvesting and processing of substances suspected to be cannabis.
According to Adebisi, the suspects are in police custody and have made confessional statements while providing information to assist ongoing investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, visited the scene to inspect the facility and assess the scale of the alleged operation.
Adebisi said Tijani commended the operatives for their intelligence-led action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling drug-related offences and dismantling criminal networks.
The commissioner also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to the police to help prevent criminal activities.
The police spokesperson said investigations into the discovery were ongoing.
