Police bust criminal hideouts, arrest 345 thugs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has recovered 270 dangerous weapons and large quantities of illicit drugs following a statewide operation that led to the arrest of 345 suspected criminals.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, describing the exercise as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime, thuggery and drug trafficking across the state.

According to him, the intelligence-led operation was carried out between June 5 and June 7 across all 44 local government areas, targeting criminal hideouts, black spots and drug distribution centres.

Among the items recovered were knives, cutlasses, clubs and various illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets and a locally brewed intoxicating mixture known as “Suck and Die.”

Bakori said 187 of the suspects were arrested during the three-day operation, while the remaining arrests resulted from earlier raids and ongoing investigations.

He noted that the operation was driven by the activities of Operation Kukan Kura and the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which have enhanced the command’s capacity to respond swiftly to criminal activities.

The commissioner stated that all suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court where sufficient evidence is established.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

“No form of criminality will be tolerated in Kano State. We will continue to intensify our operations until criminals have no place to operate,” Bakori said.

He also commended the Kano State Government for its support and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies, assuring them that all reports would be treated confidentially.

The police boss warned criminals that Kano was becoming increasingly hostile to criminal activities, stressing that the command would continue to strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering to protect lives and property.
