Police foil bandit attack, rescue six on Yankara–Funtua highway

Police operatives in Katsina State have rescued six passengers after thwarting a bandit attack on the Yankara–Funtua highway in Faskari Local Government Area.

Security sources said the incident occurred around 1:25 a.m. on January 24, when armed bandits blocked the highway and abducted six occupants of a green Honda Civic (registration number AAA 518 BC) travelling from Funtua to Faskari.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Faskari, who was on routine patrol, swiftly responded and engaged the attackers. The bandits were forced to flee into the bush, abandoning the victims.

Those rescued—Rabi Hamisu, Safare Musa, Abubakar Samaila, Shehu Umar, Sara’u Yahaya and Ibrahim Babangida—were all unharmed and later reunited with their families.

Police said intensified patrols are ongoing in the area, while efforts continue to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
