Police foil kidnap attempt, rescue 11 victims in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 11 victims—nine females and two males—along the Danmusa to Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq described the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and banditry in the state.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on the night of June 8, 2025, around 10:30 p.m.

A joint security team—including personnel from the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Operation Sharan Daji, Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes—was on routine patrol when they intercepted armed bandits attempting to escape with the kidnapped victims.

A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the bandits to flee and leaving all 11 victims safely rescued.

The victims were reportedly taken from different locations across the state before being intercepted en route by the security team.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent future attacks.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their bravery and tactical efficiency.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working in close collaboration with other security agencies to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
