Police: How ACP died during management meeting in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the death of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ogbon-inu Popoola.

The command’s Spokesman, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the ACP’s death via a statement issued on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Ukandu disclosed that Popoola died while attending a management meeting of the command on Wednesday.

Ukandu stated: “Late Popoola was a dedicated officer, who served the force with commitment and professionalism.

“The command commiserates with the family of our departed officer on this irreparable loss.”

A senior police officer, who preferred anonymity, disclosed to reporters that “the deceased suddenly developed breathing difficulty and began gasping for breath during the meeting.

The policeman added: “He was immediately rushed to the command’s clinic at the Police Headquarters, Abakaliki, where he died.

“The officer was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.”

It was further gathered that the remains of the ACP had been deposited at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital mortuary in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
