A serving Mobile Police officer has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a filling station in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State that left a 20-year-old fuel attendant dead.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on April 15, 2026, when police received a distress call reporting an armed robbery at Garun Mallam Filling Station, behind BCG Garage, Kontagora.
According to the sources, two armed suspects — one dressed in a mobile police uniform — arrived at the station on a motorcycle and demanded money from the attendant after purchasing fuel.
When the attendant, identified as Jibrin Inuwa, resisted, one of the suspects shot him in the chest and fled with an undisclosed sum of money.
Inuwa was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was pronounced dead.
His remains were subsequently released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Patrol teams from ‘A’ Division Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, immediately gave chase and tracked the suspects to the Dadinkowa area behind a vigilante office, where a gun duel ensued.
One suspect was overpowered, shot in the leg, disarmed, and arrested.
The suspect was subsequently identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed, a serving officer with 61 PMF Kontagora, currently on special duty in Agwara.
He was treated at the General Hospital, Kontagora, before being referred to the Police Clinic in Minna. An AK-47 rifle — serial number 38262 — and 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from him.
The Niger State Police Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the second fleeing suspect as investigation into the case continued.
