The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of an 11-year-old pupil, Ezikwu Chibuike, following allegations that he was flogged by a teacher at his school in Ibafo.
The incident was reported to the police on June 19 by the boy’s father, Iheanyichukwu Nnadi, who said his son returned home from school a day earlier complaining of severe headache after allegedly being flogged on the head by his French teacher.
According to the father, the deceased was a pupil of Assurance School on Olujemilusi Street, Ibafo. He said the child was given paracetamol at home, but his condition worsened overnight as he developed fever and vomiting.
The boy was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors reportedly confirmed him dead on arrival.
Police detectives visited the hospital after receiving the report and examined and photographed the body. Authorities said no visible signs of violence were found on the deceased.
The remains have since been deposited at the Real Define Morgue in Ibafo.
Police said the father requested that his son be buried immediately without an autopsy. However, the command noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the pupil’s death.
The police added that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
