Police rescue 2 abducted varsity students, nab one suspect

The operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have rescued two students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) who were kidnapped on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 1.

Nansel said the command received a distress call on Sunday that a student’s lodge was attacked at about 9:20 p.m., and two students were abducted.

Nansel stated: “On March 30, at about 9:20 p.m., we received a distress call of an attack at a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

“During the attack, two students of the Federal University, Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted.

“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators.”

Nansel further explained that following technical intelligence, the rescue team discovered that the victims were held in a forest behind the 500 housing unit along Doma road.

“The team engaged them in a gun duel in the forest, and the police firepower overwhelmed them, and they fled in different directions and abandoned the victims who were safely rescued,” the police spokesman said.

Nanasel added that one suspect, Ibrahim Musa of Abuni village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was arrested at the scene.

He said the suspect had made a useful confession and was assisting the ongoing investigations.

Nansel, on behalf of the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, appreciated the anti-kidnapping unit for its relentless efforts towards the rescue operation.

The police spokesperson, therefore, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime head-on and urged officers to remain steadfast in their mission to rid Nasarawa State of criminal activities.
