Police rescue abducted toddler in Kano, arrest three suspects

The Nigeria Police Force in Kano State has rescued a two-year-old boy who was abducted in the Gwammaja area of the state, arresting three suspects and recovering most of the ransom paid by the family.

The command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the child, identified as Aliyu Muhammad, was kidnapped on April 19 in front of his family residence in Gwammaja Quarters, Dala Local Government Area.

According to the police, the abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1 million, which was paid. However, the suspects failed to release the child after receiving the money.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to launch an intelligence-driven operation to rescue the victim.

Police said sustained surveillance and technical tracking led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout within the same Gwammaja area, where the child was being held.

The suspects—Hassan Umar, Abdullahi Hamisu, and Hussaini Saminu—were subsequently arrested, and the toddler was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.

Operatives also recovered ₦930,000, believed to be part of the ransom collected by the kidnappers.

The police commissioner commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for what he described as professionalism and tactical efficiency in handling the operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
