Popular skit maker ‘Sunshine’ dies after surgery complications

Nigerian skit maker and content creator Esther Thomas, popularly known as Sunshine, has died following complications from a surgical procedure.

Her family confirmed her passing in a statement shared on Instagram, announcing that she died on Friday, January 9, 2026.

According to the statement, Sunshine passed away after complications arose from surgery to remove fibroids.

“With pain in our hearts, we regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas, who passed away after an unsuccessful surgery,” the family stated.

A fellow content creator, Chidera Madu, disclosed that Sunshine began experiencing severe stomach pain on December 28, 2025.

She was initially admitted to Orchid General Hospital, where she reportedly received only pain management treatment due to an ongoing doctors’ strike.

Madu said she was later transferred to another medical facility on January 2, 2026, where she received proper care and subsequently underwent surgery.

Although the procedure was initially described as successful, complications reportedly developed afterward, leading to her death.

Before her passing, Sunshine was known for her lively presence on social media, where she built a following as a skit maker, model, brand influencer and video vixen.

She gained popularity for her comedy skits and collaborations within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
