The Police Service Commission (PSC) says the police have no reason to go into land matters or debt collection, noting that they are issues that should be handled through alternative dispute resolution.
The PSC Chairman, Dr Solomon Arase, said this while receiving the leaders of the Police Community Relations Committee in Abuja on Thursday, April 6.
Arase, who vowed to be a strong advocate of community partnership in policing, stated that he was worried over the increasing cases of human rights abuses in the police.
He further pledged to work with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, to reinvigorate the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for better performance.

Arase said there must be consquences for misconduct and benefits for examplary behaviour for the police to excel in its day-to-day operations.
On his part, the chairman of the committee, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniya, hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Arase as the PSC chairman, saying the former IGP is “the best for job”.
Olaniya said the committee leaders came to congratulate Arase on his appointment and to let him know that they were vigorously building on the legacies he established as the 18th IGP.
He said the committee now has offices in Canada, United Kingdom, adding: “We are here to say that the fruit God used you and others to plant has germinated. We are here to rejoice with you and show you love.”
