Rainstorm kills four, destroys homes in Sokoto

Four people have died following a devastating rainstorm that swept through Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed.

The Head of Response, Research and Statistics at the NEMA Sokoto Field Office, Tukur Abubakar, disclosed this on Monday after an assessment of the affected communities.

According to him, the agency carried out a damage assessment in Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya and other neighbouring communities in Kware LGA.

Abubakar said preliminary findings showed that hundreds of households were affected by the disaster, while many residents sustained injuries and four people lost their lives.

He added that the rainstorm also caused widespread destruction to homes and critical public infrastructure, including a primary school and a hospital.

“The assessment was conducted to determine the extent of the damage and identify the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected communities,” he said.

NEMA said the findings would guide efforts to provide relief and other necessary interventions for victims of the disaster.
