Rivers govt begins transition from emergency rule

The Rivers State Government has announced the start of its transition from emergency rule to democratic governance, marking what officials described as a historic moment for the state.

As part of the activities to usher in the new phase, an interdenominational thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The event will bring together leaders, citizens, and key stakeholders to reflect on the state’s journey and seek divine guidance for its democratic future.

Guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. service. The Rivers State Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

“The Government of Rivers State is pleased to invite stakeholders to the interdenominational thanksgiving service, as part of transition activities to usher in democratic governance in Rivers State,” the statement read.
