Rivers peace accord with Fubara will soon be public — Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, says he will soon make public the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the presence of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike spoke during a “Thank You” visit to Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Wednesday.

President Tinubu had earlier intervened to broker peace between both leaders, helping to calm the prolonged political tension in the state.

Although he did not mention Fubara directly, Wike accused his political rival of going back on parts of the agreement.

He said, “Very soon, we will let the people of Rivers State know what we agreed on before Mr President.”

He advised residents of Tai not to place their trust in politicians who fail to keep promises, warning that such leaders should not be relied upon.

Wike also said Rivers people are prepared for the 2027 elections, noting that financial influence would not determine the outcome.

According to him, the will of the people would prevail.

The minister explained that he was not on a political mission, but rather to thank the people of Tai for their support in 2023.

“It was a tough battle in 2023. You took a risk, worked with us, and God gave us victory,” he said, adding that their support contributed to the siting of a federal university and other benefits in the area.

Senator Barry Mpigi (APC – Rivers South East) appreciated President Tinubu and Wike for their support, saying the district had never enjoyed such benefits before. He pledged continued loyalty in the interest of justice and fairness.

Also speaking, Tai Constituency lawmaker Bernard Nbar and Tai Local Government Chairman Mbakpone Okpe promised continued support for Wike.

Okpe said the community had benefited from appointments, infrastructure and empowerment, and expressed readiness to support Tinubu for a second term.
