Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU.
Badejo, a professor of Guidance and Counselling, takes over from Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure at the institution has ended.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
In a statement, Omotoso said, “Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor BADEJO Ayodeji Olawumi (Nee Faji) as Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).”
Badejo was born on August 4, 1962, and obtained both her Master of Education and PhD degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos.
According to the state government, the new vice-chancellor is a professor in the Department of Guidance and Counselling.
Her appointment comes after Olatunji-Bello completed her tenure, having assumed office as LASU vice-chancellor in September 2021.
Olatunji-Bello, during her final convocation address, highlighted several achievements recorded under her administration, including the institution’s performance in accreditation exercises.
She said LASU achieved a 96 per cent success rate in its first-year accreditation exercise, with 31 of the 37 programmes presented receiving full accreditation.
The outgoing vice-chancellor also disclosed that the university’s internally generated revenue rose from N3bn to N13bn during her five-year tenure.
Reflecting on her administration’s impact, Olatunji-Bello described LASU as “the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers.”
She added that she was leaving behind “a university of proven excellence” after taking over “a university of strong potential.”
Badejo is expected to assume responsibility for the affairs of LASU as the institution begins a new leadership phase following the completion of Olatunji-Bello’s tenure.
