Sanwo-Olu: My govt doing God’s will for Lagosians’ welfare

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says his administration is doing the will of God by attending to the welfare of the residents, stressing that God is the reason for the greatness of the state.

Sanwo-Olu said this at the opening ceremony of the first session of the 9th Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church in Ikeja on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The governor, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said: “You will agree with me that God is helping us and with the prayers of the faithful in carrying out the THEMES Plus Agenda.

“We as a government are fulfilling the scriptures because the THEMES Plus Developmental Agenda is an all-encompassing care and comfort agenda for the citizens’ welfare and better living for all.”

While showcasing some of the achievements of his administration including the infrastructural development in the state, he said, the achievements have been made possible because of prayers.

Sanwo-Olu added: “I must reiterate here that, our administration’s great achievements are hinged on the prayers of the faithful, and our close relationship with the church has been pivotal to our success story. Lagos State today is the State of Excellence because His Excellency, our Father in Heaven has made it so.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu further promised that his government would continue to put the welfare of the people as a priority in the running of the state.

He commended the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt Rev Olusola Odedeji, for the impact he has made in the church since he assumed office just as he urged the cleric and Christians in Lago State to continue to lift the state in prayers.

Speaking at the event, Bishop Odedeji lamented some of the ungodly practices in the church, noting that false teachers have taken the centre stage of activities in many assemblies.

Odedeji, while speaking on the state of the nation, called on the government to be sensitive to the yearnings of the people.

He noted that some of the economic decisions of the government have a biting effect on Nigerians, saying: “All eyes are still on the managers of the nation’s economy.”

The cleric called on the federal government to work towards reducing the cost of governance, saying this would help to enhance the economy.

According to him, some agencies, including EFCC, ICPC, and Code of Conduct Bureau are unnecessary duplication of efforts.

“These agencies should be merged to save cost,” Odedeji stressed.
