Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa
The Federal Government has launched the Federal Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to promote transparency, accountability, and efficient resource management across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, unveiled the platform in Abuja, saying it will serve as a central database providing accurate and real-time information on student enrolment, funding, grants, and performance indicators.
He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to good governance and transparency in the education sector.
According to the minister, tertiary institutions must now comply with an annual data submission schedule—every first quarter of the year—to access government support.
He added that no school will receive TETFUND ICT intervention without first obtaining a clearance certificate from the Director of ICT confirming data compliance.
“For the first time, Nigeria will have a unified platform showing real-time visibility into students’ enrolment, government funding, research grants, TETFUND and NELFund interventions,” Alausa said.
“This will enhance financial transparency, improve resource allocation, promote accountability, and rebuild public trust.”
He urged vice chancellors, rectors, and provosts to ensure prompt data reporting, noting that institutional funding and international partnerships will increasingly depend on transparency and performance metrics published on the platform.
Also speaking, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, described the FTIGTP portal as a major step toward data-driven decision-making and effective governance in tertiary education.
She said the portal would support the ministry’s digital transformation agenda by providing a unified system for monitoring institutional performance, ensuring accountability, and guiding resource allocation.
Alausa concluded that the platform marks “a bold step towards rebuilding public trust and positioning Nigerian tertiary education as a globally competitive system rooted in transparency and quality outcomes.”
