Seun Kuti to Wizkid: ‘Remove my father’s tattoo or lose use of that hand’

The ongoing social media clash involving Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti and Grammy-winning singer Wizkid shows no sign of easing, despite calls for restraint from different quarters.

Seun Kuti has dismissed attempts at mediation and remains unmoved by arguments from Wizkid’s fans, popularly known as Wizkid FC, who insist that the singer’s tattoo of Fela Anikulapo Kuti signifies respect for the late Afrobeat pioneer.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Seun strongly criticised Wizkid, accusing him of exploiting his father’s legacy and issuing a stern warning over the tattoo.

“What I want to happen has finally happened. Your game of replacing Fela has been stopped. Your infiltration of my family has been stopped, and nobody in the world will ever take you seriously when you try to leech off that legacy again,” Seun said.

He went further to warn the singer over the tattoo of Fela on his arm.

“And my father’s tattoo on your hand—if you don’t take it off, you will never make any progress with that hand again. You should replace that tattoo with your father’s face. If Burna Boy could come out and say Fela is greater, who is this short man?” he added.

The dispute has also drawn reactions from other members of the Kuti family, with some of Seun’s siblings and relatives reportedly issuing warnings to Wizkid amid the growing controversy.

Meanwhile, Wizkid has remained largely silent on the issue. In the midst of the public spat, the singer premiered his long-awaited documentary, Long Live Lagos, which debuted on HBO a few days ago.

The exchange has continued to dominate conversations on social media, with fans on both sides fueling the back-and-forth.
