Shehu Sani: Terrorists abducted several passengers, killed many in train attack

Former Senator, Shehu Sani, has said that terrorists abducted a foreigner and killed several others in an attack on the Kaduna-Abuja train on Monday night.

Sani said this on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

The former federal lawmaker stated that a survivor disclosed to him that the assailants targeted the Business Class coach of the train.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, wrote: “I just spoke with a survivor who is a civil servant working with a public Library,She narrated that the terrorists specifically targeted the Business Class coach. They kidnapped some persons including a “white man” and killed those who resisted while she pretended to be dead.

“Many times the bandits try to use their herd of cattle to stop the trains but they are usually crushed and then they resort to use of explosives.The train was attacked in the very spot it was attacked last October.Passengers of 5 coaches were taken as hostages.”

The Star had reported that suspected terrorists, on Monday night, attacked a Kaduna-bound train, few kilometres to Kaduna metropolis.

The attack was confirmed by the Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Fidet Okhiria.

Okhiria said:  “Information concerning the attack was still sketchy, and no concrete information could be given at the moment.

”We have confirmed the attack, but we cannot give you much information right now.

”From the reports we have gotten, most of the passengers have gone into hiding and the officials on board are yet to give us report of the situation.

”There are reports of gunshots and the train derailed due to the attack,” the NRC boss stated.
It was gathered that the train departed Abuja 6 pm on Monday and was expected to arrive Kaduna 8 pm.

The train was said to have been attacked at about 7.45 pm.
