A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has emerged as the senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for Kano Central.
A former Special Assistant to President Buhari on Assembly Matters, Abdurrahman Sumaila, and the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Abdullahi Bichi, have also emerged as the senatorial candidates for Kano South and North respectively.
Shekarau, who currently represents Kano Central in the Senate, joined his long arch-political rival, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in the NNPP against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The chairman of the election committee at Kano Central, Abubakar Jahun, said Shekarau scored 516 votes which represents the total number of votes cast.

In Kano North, the chairman of the election committee, Dr Bashir Yusuf, said Bichi scored 384 out of the 385 total votes cast in the solo contested primary election.
Sumaila also emerged as the candidate of the NNPP in Kano South Senatorial District where he contested unopposed.
NNPP has poised itself as a strong contender in Kano politics in preparation for the 2023 general election.
