Shock as young man allegedly takes own life in Abuja

Confusion gripped residents of Kagini, a community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Friday following reports that a young man, identified only as IK, allegedly committed suicide in his home.

The incident, said to have occurred in the early hours of the day, drew public attention after a video surfaced on the verified Facebook page of Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In the footage, friends and neighbours of the deceased expressed disbelief over the tragedy, with some attributing it to personal struggles, while others suspected foul play and demanded evidence of the stool allegedly used.

As of press time, the FCT Police Command had not released an official statement. Attempts to reach the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, but a police source confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding IK’s death.
