Speeding vehicle kills pedestrian in Oyo

A middle-aged man has died after he was struck by a speeding vehicle in a hit-and-run incident at Orogun Bus Stop along the Ojoo/Iwo Road in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday as the victim was attempting to cross the expressway, according to eyewitnesses.

An eyewitness, who identified herself as Iya Kadijat, said the driver sped off immediately after hitting the man, leaving him dead at the scene.

“I was waiting to board a commercial vehicle to General Gas Bus Stop when I suddenly heard a loud noise. The driver did not stop, and the man died instantly,” she said, adding that she left the area in shock shortly after the incident.

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said efforts to identify the deceased had been unsuccessful.

“Most shops had already closed because of the weather. This morning, we asked around the community, but no one knew him. We are appealing to the relevant authorities to evacuate the body before it becomes a health hazard,” the resident said.

The resident also urged authorities to use radio and television stations to help locate the victim’s relatives, suggesting that anyone with a missing male family member around the Orogun or Agbowo area should check nearby hospital morgues.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he would liaise with the appropriate authorities to ensure the body was evacuated.
