Taxi driver arrested over serial sexual assaults, robberies in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial taxi driver accused of carrying out a series of rape, assault, and armed robbery attacks on female passengers across the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, identifying the suspect as Adedayo Ben Adegbola.

He was apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, on October 31, 2025, following multiple reports and viral social media posts from alleged victims.

According to Adebisi, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunnare Jimoh, ordered a discreet investigation after online complaints linked several sexual assaults to the same driver.

“Following the directive, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, recovering a red Toyota Corolla used in the crimes, with registration number JJJ 226 HT,” Adebisi said.

She added that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover possible accomplices.

“The painstaking investigation by the Police Joint Investigation Team led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the operational vehicle used in committing the offences,” she stated.

SP Adebisi urged other victims to come forward and assist with the investigation, assuring that their identities would be protected.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Jimoh reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors and maintaining public safety, adding that further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.

The recovered vehicle has been secured as evidence for prosecution.
