‘US’ll wipe out Islamic terrorists’: Trump threatens military action in Nigeria

United States President Donald Trump has threatened to attack Nigeria if the killing of Christians in the country continues.

Trump, who described Nigeria as a “disgraced country”, said the U.S. military will wipe out Islamic terrorists in Nigeria.

The president, in a post on Truth Social on Saturday night, disclosed that he has directed the United States Department of War to prepare for “possible action”, adding that he would order an immediate end to all aid and assistance to Nigeria.

Trump wrote: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

He, however, didn’t state the potential timing of any U.S. military action.

Tinubu replies Trump: Nigeria doesn’t encourage religious persecution

Trump had, on Friday, said “thousands of Christians” were being killed in Nigeria by radical Islamists.

He added that his administration added Nigeria back to a “Countries of Particular Concern” list of nations that the U.S. says have violated religious freedom.

Other nations on the list include China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan.

President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, debunked claims of religious intolerance and defended his administration’s efforts to protect religious freedom in Nigeria.

Trump had designated Nigeria a country of concern during his first term in the White House.

His Democratic successor Joe Biden removed it from the U.S. State Department list in 2021.
