Terrorists attack presidential guards in Abuja after threat to kidnap Buhari

Terrorists have attacked the troops of the Guards Brigade’s 7 battalion in Abuja.

The battalion is a unit under the Guards Brigade, which is responsible for protecting the President.

It was gathered that no fewer than three soldiers were wounded during the attack.

It was further learnt that the gunmen were heading to the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja when they attacked the troops.

The terrorists were said to have laid siege to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the intention to attack the Law School in Bwari, and other government facilities.

Earlier on Monday, the Federal Government ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College (FGC), Kwali in the Kwali Area Council of Abuja.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who gave the directive, said the closure became necessary following a security breach on Sheda and Lambata villages, suburbs of Kwali Area Council, which also threatened FGC Kwali.

This comes barely 24 hours after terrorists, in a video, threatened to abduct President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The convoy of Buhari, this month, was attacked on its way to the President’s hometown, Daura, Katsina State, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The attack on Buhari’s convoy occurred on the day the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents attacked the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja and freed over 800 inmates, including all the terrorists in detention.

Speaking on the latest attack, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Guards Brigade, Captain Godfrey Abakpa, said the soldiers were attacked by suspected terrorists but were repelled successfully.

Abakpa added the wounded soldiers have been evacuated to a medical facility and were receiving treatment.

“At the moment our troops are still combing the general area to get rid of the criminals that have been threatening the general area.

“It is advised that residents go about their lawful businesses and keep cooperating with us by giving us timely information to enable us win the fight against the criminals,” he stated.
