Three feared dead in Nasarawa highway bus fire

At least three people are feared dead following a fatal road accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday along the Akwanga Highway in Nasarawa State.

The incident reportedly happened at about 2:30 a.m. near Gidan Waya Village when a Hummer bus transporting passengers from Enugu to Bauchi lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a large stone.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the impact damaged the vehicle’s fuel tank and one of its tyres, causing the bus to catch fire shortly after the collision.

Sources said three passengers were believed to have been trapped inside the vehicle and lost their lives in the fire, while several others were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Security operatives, alongside good Samaritans, were said to have responded swiftly to the scene, helping to put out the fire and assist injured passengers.

The police confirmed that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, while authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution, particularly during long-distance night travel.
