Tight security in Borno ahead of Tinubu’s visit

The Borno State Police Command has rolled out extensive security measures ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the command had deployed tactical units, surveillance teams and operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to ensure a safe and hitch-free presidential visit.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, approved a comprehensive security arrangement involving conventional police officers, crowd control personnel and specialised units across strategic locations in the state.

The police also announced that temporary traffic restrictions and diversions would be enforced in some areas, particularly along the Airport Road–Shehu Road axis in Maiduguri, to allow for the smooth movement of VIPs and enhance public safety.

Residents and motorists were urged to exercise patience and comply with lawful directives from security personnel.

“The Command reassures residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during and after the presidential visit, and calls for continued cooperation, vigilance and support from the public,” the statement said.

President Tinubu is embarking on a three-state visit to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos on Saturday.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will, while in Borno, commission projects executed by the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Zulum in collaboration with the Federal Government.

He is also expected to attend the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem.

From Maiduguri, the President will proceed to Bauchi State to condole with the state government and the family of the late Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who died on November 27.

The President will thereafter travel to Lagos, where he will spend the end-of-year holiday. During his stay, he is expected to serve as guest of honour at the Eyo Festival scheduled for December 27 at Tafawa Balewa Square.

The festival will honour notable personalities, including President Tinubu’s mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, as well as former Lagos State governors, Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Chief Michael Otedola.
