Tinted glass: Police begin full enforcement of permit law in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of regulations on the use of tinted vehicle glass across the state.

Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who announced this in a statement on Thursday, said the exercise follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and is aimed at enhancing public safety, curbing crime, and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.

According to her, motorists using tinted glasses must obtain an approved permit via www.possap.gov.ng. Vehicle owners unwilling to secure the permit are advised to remove the tints or replace factory-fitted tinted glass with transparent ones in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.

“Vehicles with tinted glasses without a valid permit will be impounded, and offenders prosecuted,” Adebisi warned, adding that motorists must also carry their essential documents and cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search operations.

She noted that Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed officers to conduct the exercise professionally and without harassment or extortion, warning that erring officers and their supervisors would be sanctioned.

While urging public cooperation, the spokesperson reassured residents that the enforcement was not meant to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to strengthen security across Lagos.

She further encouraged members of the public to report misconduct through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU) via hotlines 09111111150, 09111991116, 08090277712, 08090277714, 08090277713, 08090277711, or on social media platforms: WhatsApp 09111111151, X (formerly Twitter) @LagosPoliceNG, @CruLagospolice, Facebook @NPF Lagos, and Instagram @Policeng_Lagos.
