President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, peace and stability as the 2026 Ramadan fasting period begins alongside the Christian Lenten season.
The President made the call on Wednesday while declaring open the Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja, describing the overlap of the two religious observances as a “sign” of the need for collaboration among citizens of different faiths.
Tinubu said Ramadan provides an opportunity for Muslims to grow closer to God, show compassion to others, forgive one another and strengthen national cohesion.
He encouraged Nigerians to maintain goodwill beyond the fasting period, pray for those in need and support efforts aimed at nation building, while expressing hope that the country would overcome challenges such as terrorism and banditry.
During the sermon, the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque prayed for the President’s health and strength as he continues efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The event drew several top government officials, including the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi; and the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado.
