Tinubu flags off Tungan Madaki–Zuba Road to boost FCT satellite communities

President Bola Tinubu on Monday flagged off the construction of the Tungan Madaki access road linking the community to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway through Zuba, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure development to satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Tinubu said the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to ensure that rural and suburban communities enjoy the same level of development as the city centre.

The president described road as part of a broader plan to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and unlock investment opportunities across the FCT.

He noted that the project continues the road network from Bill Clinton Drive to Tungan Madaki, commissioned a few weeks ago during activities marking the administration’s third anniversary.

“What began as one road is now growing into a network, and that is how real development takes root,” said Tinubu, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Tinubu noted that residents of Tungan Madaki, Zuba, and neighbouring communities, many of whom are farmers, traders and students, have endured years of poor road access that hindered movement, increased transportation costs and limited economic opportunities.

He said the new road would provide direct access to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, reduce travel time and vehicle maintenance costs, while easing the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods.

The president added that improved road infrastructure would support food supply, encourage enterprise, reduce congestion in the Abuja city centre, and strengthen economic activities between the FCT and the North-West region.

Tinubu described infrastructure as a key driver of prosperity, security and social inclusion, stressing that the government remains committed to delivering projects with direct impact on citizens.

Tinubu also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for accelerating infrastructure delivery across the capital, noting that the administration is prioritising the completion of projects rather than abandoning them.

Tinubu directed the contractor handling the project, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to ensure quality work, timely completion and the engagement of local labour to create jobs for youths.

Atiku accuses INEC of aiding plot to weaken ADC, opposition

Earlier, Wike said the project was in fulfilment of President Tinubu’s directive to connect all satellite towns and area councils to Abuja through modern road infrastructure.

The minister stated that the road was approved after the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council highlighted the need for a direct route linking Zuba to the city to ease the burden on commuters.

Wike said the road would provide residents of Zuba and surrounding communities with easier access to Abuja and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport without travelling through Gwagwalada.

Wike expressed confidence that CCECC would complete the project before the end of the year, describing it as a “Christmas gift” to residents of Tungan Madaki and Zuba.

Also speaking, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said the project reflects the administration’s determination to improve connectivity, attract investment, boost commerce and ensure that no community is left behind in the ongoing development of the FCT.
