Tinubu orders probe into Kaduna bombing

President Bola Tinubu has directed “a thorough and full-fledged investigation” into the bombing mishap in a village at Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Star had reported that the Nigerian Army claimed responsibility for the incident which left no fewer than 30 residents dead on Sunday.

The Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, who made this known on Monday, said the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander Operation Whirl Punch, Maj Gen VU Okoro, admitted that the army was on a routine mission against terrorists when the incident occurred.

The villagers were killed in air strikes in Tudun Biri during Maulud, a joyful gathering marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad, at about 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Speaking on the incident, President Tinubu, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday, directed an investigation into the bombing and called for calm “while the authorities look diligently into the mishap”.

The president also directed swift and comprehensive medical attention for surviving victims and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

While sympathising with the families of the victims, the people, and the government of Kaduna State over the bombing, Tinubu described the incident as “very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful, expressing indignation and grief over the tragic loss of Nigerian lives.”
