President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University.

Tinubu announced this during a condolence visit to the state government and members of the family of the late scholar on Saturday.

The president described the late Sheikh as a man who loved humanity, brought impactful knowledge to the people, and worked hard on the path of the Almighty Allah.

Tinubu said: “From today onward, I will announce change of name to immortalise him from the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, to be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University.

“We all came from the Almighty Allah and we will return to Him. And the best thing for us is to continue to pray for peace, stability of our country, for economic prosperity, development and to live the value that he left behind.

Our diversity must unite us — Uba Sani

“May Allah grant him Al-Janah Firdaus. May God continue to keep all of you safe, keep our country together, give us peace and prosperity.”

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed commended the president over the condolence visit to the government and the family of the late Sheikh.

Mohammed said for the president to have come down himself after previously sending Vice President Kashim Shettima during the burial rites showed the kind of affinity and respect he had for the late Sheikh, the family, and the people of the state.

Earlier, Dr Bashir Sheikh Dahiru-Bauchi, who spoke on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to Tinubu for sending a high profile delegation to attend the funeral prayer of the late Sheikh, and for his condolence visit to the family.
