Tinubu renews Audi’s tenure as NSCDC boss for five years

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.

The reappointment, which took effect from Friday, February 27, was announced in a State House press statement issued on Saturday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

Dr Audi was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial tenure ended last Friday as he participated in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, the reappointed Commandant-General will resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the NSCDC to play a more significant role in the country’s security architecture, particularly as the police refocus on their core mandate of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers and terrorists.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi began his educational journey at Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, where he obtained a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.

He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education in 1995. In 2001, he bagged a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar.

Audi further obtained a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014, and a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

He joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and, after completing his basic officer training in 1997, was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Over the years, he served in various state commands and was promoted to the rank of Commandant in 2007 before his deployment to the office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.

With the renewed mandate, Audi is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen the Corps’ role in safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.
