Transfer: Bayer Leverkusen to appoint Ten Hag as coach, Amorim orders Garnacho to leave Man Utd

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is close to agreeing a deal to take over as the Bayer Leverkusen head coach.

His representatives at SEG management are in the final stages of negotiations over an initial two-year contract.

Bayer had been keen on Como boss Cesc Fabregas to replace new Real Madrid manager abi Alonso – but the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has decided to stay at the Italian club.

Ten Hag has been out of work since he was sacked by United in October 2024.

Arsenal and Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres will play his final game for Sporting today in the Portuguese Cup Final against Benfica.

Gyokeres has a Gentlemen’s agreement he can leave for less than his €100m release clause this summer. Sporting will consider offers above €70m. He has three years left on his contract.

Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma is a summer transfer target for Arsenal, Sky Sports reported.

Real Madrid appoint Alonso as coach

Arsenal are looking at signing more firepower and Mitoma is said to have been added to their shortlist.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has told United winger Alejandro Garnacho to find another club, according to The Athletic.

Garnacho is available to be sold this summer for pure profit as he is an academy product, with the winger failing to nail down a spot in Amorim’s squad this season.

Garnacho cast doubt on his future at Old Trafford following United’s 1-0 Europa League final defeat against Tottenham on Wednesday night, when he did not come on until the 71st minute.

Garnacho said after the game: “Obviously it’s hard for everyone.

“Our season was s***. We didn’t beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don’t score goals, you always need more. Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today… I don’t know.

“I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.”

Napoli and Chelsea both showed interest in Garnacho in January and he remains on the list of wingers the London club are considering heading into this summer.
