Transfer: Gyokeres rejects Man United move as Arsenal make £46.8m offer

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has turned down the chance to move to Manchester United this summer.

Gyokeres’s agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has told United the striker does not want to be reunited with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford next season.

The 27-year-old Sweden international scored 54 goals in just 52 games for Sporting last season and was coached by Amorim during his time in charge of the Lisbon club.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have made an opening bid of £46.8 million, with a possible £8.5 million in add ons, to Sporting Lisbon for Gyokeres, Sky Sports reported.

On Wednesday morning, Sporting president Frederico Varandas said the club had not received any offers for Gyokeres and the player will not be allowed to leave for £59 million(€70 million) this summer.

Varandas has disputed the existence of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Gyokeres’s agent that would allow the United and Arsenal target to leave for a fixed fee of £50.8 million (€60 million) plus £8.4 million (€10 million) in add ons.

Reports in Portugal claim Gyokeres has told Sporting he will not play for them again because he feels disappointed they have not kept to their promise.

Varandas said he has guaranteed that Gyokeres will be allowed to go for less than his €100 million release clause, but has made clear there will be an open negotiation for the striker.

New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is plotting a move to bring 25-year-old Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo and DR Congo striker Yoane Wissa, 28, to Spurs from his former club Brentford.

Tottenham recently appointed  Frank as their new head coach.

Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Brighton forward Joao Pedro after learning the 23-year-old would be interested in signing for Eddie Howe’s side.

Fenerbahce have emerged as a possible destination for Kyle Walker, who is available after AC Milan turned their back on a move for the Manchester City defender.

Walker, 35, joined Milan on a six-month loan deal in January but it is understood that the Italian club, who finished eighth in Serie A, have informed City that they do not wish to sign him on a permanent basis.
