Tricyclist kills policeman on duty

The operatives of the Gombe State Police Command have arrested a tricyclist for allegedly killing a police officer, Inspector Kambarawa Wazani, while enforcing the state’s motorcycle ban.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Abdullahi said the incident occurred at the deputy governor’s office junction, Bauchi Road, Gombe, last Friday.

Abdullahi said the tricyclist speeding from Jeka da Fari hit the police officer, who later died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

“Kambarawa Wazani, 40, was hit by a reckless tricyclist during enforcement of the motorcycle restriction. Sadly, he lost his life in the line of duty,” he said.

Abdullahi stated that the tricyclist was detained after being discharged from the hospital.

“The Command urges all road users to obey traffic rules and exercise caution, especially near police checkpoints, to avoid accidents and safeguard lives,” the police spokesman added.
