Troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed several terrorist camps during ongoing Operation Clean Sweep and rescued a kidnapped victim in Katsina State.
The operation was conducted by troops of the 17 Brigade Strike Group and Quick Response Force, supported by officers of the 8 Division Special Forces.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, said the operation targeted terrorist strongholds around Tuga in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The army said the troops leveraged intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support as well as precision strikes from the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma.
It disclosed that troops recovered 36 cattle, 280 sheep, and two donkeys rustled by terrorists.
The army stated that the recovery dealt a major blow to the economic activities of criminal groups that rely on livestock theft and related crimes.
The army added: “Sustaining the operational momentum, troops advanced further into the notorious Fafu Forest, applying the Relentless Incursion strategy aimed at denying terrorists safe havens.

“Following coordinated aerial and artillery bombardments on identified targets, troops converged within the objective area, engaging and destroying several terrorist camps and concealed hideouts embedded within difficult terrain.”
The Nigerian Army said the troops uncovered a hideout linked to a notorious terrorist leader, where kidnapped victims were being held under harsh conditions.
It disclosed that two lifeless bodies were recovered at the site, while one victim, identified as Nura Yar’Adua, was found in chains and successfully rescued.
“He was immediately given first aid before being evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina for advanced medical care,” the army stated.
It added that signs of terrorist casualties were observed, indicating a significant degradation of the insurgents’ operational capability.
