Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have thwarted a suspected bandit attack on military camps in Sabuwa and Faskari Local Government Areas of Katsina State, while also intercepting an unidentified surveillance drone believed to have been deployed by the criminals.
The incident occurred at about 10:25 p.m. when troops spotted a group of armed men on motorcycles moving suspiciously near Maiganguma village. Simultaneously, a drone was seen hovering over Dandume and Machika villages, particularly around the perimeters of Operation Sharan Daji Camp and Machika Military Super Camp.
According to security sources, troops contacted other security units to verify whether the drone belonged to any allied forces, but all denied deploying it.
The drone, which initially disappeared behind Wori Rock, re-emerged shortly after, prompting soldiers to open fire.
The operator then appeared to recall the drone in the direction of Wori Rock, after which it vanished.
Meanwhile, the suspected bandits fled into the surrounding bush, evading capture. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
Security forces have launched an investigation to identify the drone operator and uncover any potential reconnaissance or attack plans linked to the suspected bandits.
