Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in North East Nigeria have successfully repelled an ambush by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents near Papa 7 in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.
According to sources, at about 4:30 a.m. on February 16, soldiers of the 152 Task Force Battalion, working alongside local Vigilante Forces, engaged insurgents attempting to move from the CM to NG axis.
The troops, who had anticipated the attack, sprang their own ambush, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray under enfilade fire.
Following the operation, security forces recovered several items, including a Honda motorcycle, three bicycles, 84 cans of Amasco engine oil, two sacks of fresh Quick juice, and four gallons of groundnut oil.
The sources added that while a limited search of the area has already been conducted, a full sweep will be carried out once troops secure picquet positions.
They confirmed that the JTF continues to maintain a high level of vigilance and aggressive patrols to prevent insurgents from operating freely in the area.
