Troops under the Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted ambush by suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province fighters along the Bulayobe–Darel Jamel axis of Borno State, recovering supplies believed to be linked to the insurgents.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 5:35 a.m. on February 13 when troops, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were conducting a night ambush operation at Papa 4, about 4.1 kilometres from a Forward Operating Base.
The team reportedly spotted suspected terrorists attempting to cross the main supply route from the Cameroon side toward Nigerian territory.
The troops immediately opened fire, forcing the fighters to retreat and scatter.
During a follow-up sweep of the area, soldiers recovered two sacks marked with phone numbers and names believed to belong to senders and intended receivers.
One sack was traced to contacts in Kano, while the receiver’s details reportedly led to Maiduguri.
Items found inside included clothing materials, scarves, praying mats, copies of the Qur’an and other religious books, bicycle parts, a sewing machine, tools, eye drops and packs of medication, among other personal effects.
Military sources said no further items were discovered after an extended search.
They added that troops have intensified surveillance and patrols to restrict insurgent movement, stressing that the overall security situation remains under control and that morale among personnel remains high.
