Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have neutralised a suspected Boko Haram fighter during a late-night ambush in Borno State.
Security sources said the operation took place at about 11:40 p.m. on Sunday along a known terrorist movement route within the Timbuktu Triangle area.
According to the sources, the troops, drawn from Bravo Company, had laid in wait when they intercepted a group of insurgents moving through the corridor. On spotting the soldiers, the fighters reportedly fled in different directions.
A subsequent sweep of the area led to the discovery of one suspected ISWAP fighter who had been killed during the encounter.
Items recovered at the scene included three scent-stick rubbers, three hijabs, four wrappers, 13 undergarments, as well as other personal effects and cosmetics believed to belong to the fleeing insurgents. Troops also expended 75 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the engagement.
The sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded among the soldiers.
Military authorities said the ambush formed part of ongoing operations aimed at restricting the movement of terrorists and disrupting their logistics and regrouping efforts across the North-East.
